Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (120-130°F).
- Add the milk mixture and egg to the dry ingredients. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then on high for 3 minutes.
- Stir in the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread Nutella evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Roll the dough tightly and slice it into 8 even pieces.
- Twist and braid the dough pieces together, placing them into a greased baking dish.
- Let the dough rise for an additional 20-30 minutes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can brush the buns with a little melted butter or glaze them with powdered sugar icing for an extra touch.
- If the Nutella is too thick, warm it slightly before spreading to make it easier to apply.
- For a different twist, you can replace the hazelnuts with almonds or walnuts.
