Description

This classic Italian dessert is rich, creamy, and indulgent. Made with layers of delicate ladyfingers soaked in coffee and rum, topped with a smooth mascarpone cream filling, and dusted with cocoa powder, this Authentic Italian Tiramisu is a timeless treat that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons rum
  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ladyfinger cookies
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended.
  • Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a gentle boil. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • Cover the mixture tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • In a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream with vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  • Once the egg mixture has cooled, fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth and well combined.
  • In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and rum.
  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long. Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×13-inch serving dish.
  • Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  • Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  • Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and use more coffee or a coffee substitute.
  • You can prepare this dessert a day in advance for even better flavor as it allows the layers to meld together.
  • Be sure not to soak the ladyfingers for too long as they should maintain some texture.
