4 cups cubed stale French bread or brioche
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
4 large eggs
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
-
1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate (optional)
-
-
For the Bananas Foster Sauce:
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter
-
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
-
1/4 cup dark rum
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
2 large bananas, sliced
-
Instructions
-
Make the Bread Pudding:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
-
Add the cubed bread to the bowl and mix well, allowing the bread to soak in the custard mixture for about 10 minutes. If desired, fold in the chopped walnuts or chocolate for added texture and flavor.
-
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden and set in the center.
-
-
Make the Bananas Foster Sauce:
-
In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
-
Carefully add the dark rum (be cautious as it may flame). Allow it to cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
-
Add the sliced bananas and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the bananas are soft and caramelized.
-
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
-
-
Serve:
-
Spoon the warm bread pudding onto plates and top with a generous portion of the Bananas Foster sauce and bananas.
-
Serve immediately and enjoy!
-
Notes
-
For an extra indulgent touch, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
-
Substitute the rum with a bit of rum extract if you prefer a non-alcoholic version.
-
Use brioche bread for an extra buttery, soft texture in the pudding.
