Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:

    • 1 cup whole milk, warmed

    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

    • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

    • 1/4 cup water

    • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 1 large egg

  • For the Filling:

    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

    • 1 cup packed brown sugar

    • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

    • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

    • 1/2 pound cooked bacon, chopped into small pieces

    • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

  • For the Bourbon Maple Glaze:

    • 1/2 cup maple syrup

    • 2 tablespoons bourbon

    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

    • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add the melted butter, water, flour, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. If needed, add more flour to achieve a soft, slightly sticky dough. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

  • Prepare the Filling:
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth. Set aside.

  • Shape the Rolls:
After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface (about 12×16 inches). Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly across the dough. Sprinkle the chopped bacon and optional pecans or walnuts over the filling. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Let the Rolls Rise:
Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, or until they have puffed up and are nearly doubled in size.

  • Bake the Rolls:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake them for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  • Make the Glaze:
While the rolls are baking, prepare the bourbon maple glaze. In a small saucepan, combine the maple syrup, bourbon, butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for 3-4 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly.

  • Drizzle and Serve:
Once the rolls are baked and golden, remove them from the oven and immediately drizzle the warm bourbon maple glaze over the top of the rolls. Let the glaze soak in for a few minutes before serving.

  • Serve:
Serve these Bourbon Maple Bacon Cinnamon Rolls warm, and enjoy the sweet, savory, and slightly boozy flavors!

Notes

  • Make-Ahead: If you want to make these rolls ahead of time, you can prepare them up to the point of baking, then refrigerate the rolls overnight. The next morning, let them come to room temperature before baking.

  • Substitute for Bourbon: If you don’t want to use bourbon, you can substitute with a little extra maple syrup or use rum for a similar depth of flavor.

  • Extra Topping Ideas: You can top the rolls with additional chopped bacon or a sprinkle of crushed pecans for added texture.
