This Churro French Toast combines the crispy, sugary goodness of churros with the fluffy decadence of French toast. Dipped in a cinnamon-sugar coating and pan-fried to golden perfection, it’s a delicious breakfast treat that will make your mornings extra special!
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 thick slices of day-old brioche or challah bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
- Butter (for frying)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar:
- In a shallow dish, mix together the 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Set aside for coating the French toast after it’s fried.
-
Make the Custard:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the 4 eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, and ¼ teaspoon salt until well combined.
-
Dip the Bread:
- Heat a griddle or large frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of day-old bread into the custard mixture, making sure to coat both sides evenly but not soak it through.
-
Fry the French Toast:
- Place the dipped bread slices onto the heated griddle or pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Add more butter to the pan as needed to prevent sticking.
-
Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:
- Once the French toast slices are cooked, immediately place them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating each side generously with the sweet, spiced blend.
-
Serve:
- Serve the Churro French Toast hot with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
Notes
- Using day-old brioche or challah bread is ideal because it soaks up the custard without becoming too soggy.
- If you prefer a lighter version, you can use a plant-based milk and substitute the butter with a non-dairy alternative.
- For an extra indulgent treat, top the churro French toast with a drizzle of chocolate sauce or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
