- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, combine chopped dates and boiling water. Stir in baking soda and let stand for about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix together sugar, butter, and egg until smooth and creamy. Stir in the date mixture.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the date mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Fold in the chopped walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
