Ingredients
For the Ribs:
-
2 racks of baby back ribs (about 3–4 pounds)
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Dry Rub:
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon paprika
-
1 tablespoon garlic powder
-
1 tablespoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon ground mustard
-
1 teaspoon ground cumin
-
1 teaspoon chili powder
-
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
-
1 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon salt
For the BBQ Sauce:
-
1 cup ketchup
-
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tablespoon mustard
-
1 tablespoon honey
-
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Prepare the Ribs:
-
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil.
-
Remove the silver skin (thin membrane) from the back of the ribs by using a paper towel for a firm grip.
-
Pat the ribs dry with paper towels, then season them generously with salt and pepper.
-
-
Make the Dry Rub:
-
In a small bowl, combine all the dry rub ingredients.
-
Rub the dry mixture all over the ribs, pressing it into the meat. Make sure both sides are well-coated. Let the ribs sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes.
-
-
Cook the Ribs (Slow Roast Method):
-
Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet, meat-side up. Cover the ribs tightly with aluminum foil.
-
Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, until the ribs are tender and the meat pulls away from the bone easily.
-
-
Prepare the BBQ Sauce:
-
While the ribs are baking, combine all the BBQ sauce ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
-
Stir to combine, and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it thickens slightly. Adjust salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
-
-
Finish the Ribs:
-
Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once the ribs are done baking, remove them from the oven and carefully discard the foil.
-
Brush the BBQ sauce generously over the ribs.
-
Grill the ribs for 5-7 minutes per side, basting with additional sauce, until they have a nice char and the sauce is caramelized.
-
-
Serve:
-
Remove the ribs from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with additional BBQ sauce on the side.
-
Notes
If you don’t have a grill, you can also finish the ribs under the broiler for 5-7 minutes, keeping an eye on them to avoid burning the sauce.
For a smoky flavor, you can add liquid smoke to your BBQ sauce or cook the ribs over indirect heat on the grill.
