Ingredients
Scale
(Serves 4):
- 1 pound ground meat (chicken, turkey, or pork)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 medium head of green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 medium carrots, shredded
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Optional: sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
-
Cook the Meat:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes). Once cooked, remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
-
Sauté the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
-
Add the Cabbage and Carrots:
- Stir in the shredded carrots and sliced cabbage, and cook for about 5-6 minutes, until the vegetables have softened but still have a bit of crunch.
-
Combine Meat and Sauce:
- Return the cooked ground meat to the skillet.
- Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until everything is well coated and heated through.
-
Serve:
- Garnish with sliced green onions and optional sesame seeds for extra flavor and crunch. Serve immediately!
Notes
- You can substitute the ground meat with tofu for a vegetarian option.
- For extra flavor, you can add a drizzle of extra sesame oil or a splash of hoisin sauce.
- Serve this stir fry over steamed rice or with a side of cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
