Description

This Taco Casserole is a flavorful, easy-to-make dish that combines all the best taco ingredients into one comforting, cheesy, and satisfying meal. Ground beef, taco seasoning, crunchy tortilla chips, melty cheddar cheese, and creamy sour cream come together in a hearty casserole that the whole family will love. Perfect for busy nights or casual gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3 cups tortilla chips, crushed
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add Taco Seasoning:
Stir in the taco seasoning with a splash of water (about 1/4 cup) and cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Prepare the Casserole:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a layer of crushed tortilla chips evenly across the bottom.
  • Layer the Ingredients:
Top the tortilla chips with the seasoned ground beef mixture. Spread the diced tomatoes evenly over the beef, followed by a layer of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake:
Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Finish with Toppings:
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Add dollops of sour cream on top and garnish with chopped green onions for a burst of freshness.
  • Serve:
Serve the taco casserole warm with extra sour cream, salsa, or guacamole on the side.

Notes

  • Customization: Feel free to add more toppings like sliced jalapeños, olives, or guacamole for extra flavor.
  • Make it Spicy: If you like more heat, add some diced green chilies or hot sauce to the casserole before baking.
  • Vegetarian Option: Replace the ground beef with black beans or a meat alternative for a vegetarian version.
