Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak:

  • 2 boneless ribeye steaks (or your preferred cut of steak)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust based on your heat preference)
  • 1 tsp honey (for balance)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 crusty sandwich rolls (or your choice of bread)
  • Fresh lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Sliced red onion (optional)
  • Cheddar or provolone cheese (optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the steak: Pat the ribeye steaks dry with paper towels. Drizzle olive oil on both sides of the steaks and season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Let the steaks sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to marinate.

  • Cook the steak: Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the steaks on the pan and sear for about 4-5 minutes per side (for medium-rare, adjust time for your preferred doneness). Remove the steaks from the pan and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

  • Make the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, honey, lemon juice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Mix until smooth and adjust seasoning to your liking. You can add more hot sauce if you want more heat!

  • Assemble the sandwich: Slice the sandwich rolls in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster. Spread a generous amount of the sauce on both sides of each roll.

  • Layer the sandwich: On the bottom half of each roll, place a few fresh lettuce leaves, a couple of slices of tomato, and some red onion slices (if using). Then, pile on the sliced steak, layering it evenly. Top with a slice of cheese if desired, then cover with the top half of the roll.

  • Serve: Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your juicy steak sandwich with a flavorful kick!

Notes

  • Steak choice: You can use any steak cut you prefer for this sandwich, such as flank steak or sirloin, but ribeye offers great flavor and tenderness.
  • Heat level: Adjust the amount of hot sauce and cayenne pepper based on your preferred level of spice. You can also use a milder hot sauce for a more subtle kick.
  • Additions: Feel free to add other toppings like pickles, arugula, or grilled peppers for extra flavor.
