Description

This Caramel Apple Jam combines the sweet, fruity flavor of apples with the rich, caramelized goodness of sugar and butter. A hint of cinnamon and vanilla adds warmth, making this jam perfect for spreading on toast or pairing with your favorite baked goods. It’s autumn in a jar!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups apples (peeled, cored, and chopped; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, combine the chopped apples, sugar, butter, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the apples evenly with the sugar and spices.
  • Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to break down and the sugar has dissolved, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Once the apples are softened, use a potato masher or immersion blender to mash the mixture to your desired texture. If you prefer a smoother jam, blend it more thoroughly.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and continue cooking, stirring often, until it thickens and reaches a jam-like consistency (about 30-40 minutes).
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let the jam cool slightly before transferring it to sterilized jars. Seal the jars tightly and refrigerate once fully cooled.
  • Enjoy your homemade caramel apple jam on toast, scones, or as a filling for pastries!

Notes

  • For a thicker jam, you can continue to cook the mixture a little longer or add pectin if desired.
  • This jam can be stored in the fridge for up to 2-3 weeks. It can also be processed in a water bath canner for longer shelf life.
  • Adjust the sugar depending on the sweetness of your apples and personal preference.
