Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup festive colored sprinkles or red/green M&M’s (optional, for a holiday twist)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. - Mix the dry ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. - Cream the butter and sugars:
In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. - Combine wet and dry ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. - Add the chocolate chips:
Stir in the chocolate chips and festive sprinkles or M&M’s, if using. - Shape the cookies:
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. - Bake the cookies:
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft. - Cool the cookies:
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. - Serve:
Enjoy warm with a glass of milk or store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Notes
- For extra chewiness, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
- Feel free to swap out the chocolate chips for milk chocolate, white chocolate, or even chopped nuts if you like.
- These cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months! Freeze the dough balls and bake them directly from the freezer when you’re ready for fresh cookies.
