Description

These Classic Christmas Chocolate Chip Cookies are a holiday favorite that combine the rich, buttery flavor of a classic chocolate chip cookie with a festive twist! Soft and chewy with just the right amount of chocolatey goodness, they’re perfect for holiday baking, gift-giving, or enjoying with a glass of milk.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup festive colored sprinkles or red/green M&M’s (optional, for a holiday twist)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • Mix the dry ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream the butter and sugars:
In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Add the chocolate chips:
Stir in the chocolate chips and festive sprinkles or M&M’s, if using.
  • Shape the cookies:
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake the cookies:
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft.
  • Cool the cookies:
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve:
Enjoy warm with a glass of milk or store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Notes

  • For extra chewiness, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Feel free to swap out the chocolate chips for milk chocolate, white chocolate, or even chopped nuts if you like.
  • These cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months! Freeze the dough balls and bake them directly from the freezer when you’re ready for fresh cookies.
