Ingredients

  • Brownies:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Mocha Frosting:
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 2 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, eggs, instant coffee, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Mocha Frosting:

  1. In a medium bowl, cream together softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, brewed coffee, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Once the brownies have cooled, spread the frosting over the top. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • If you like a stronger coffee flavor, you can increase the amount of instant coffee.
  • Make sure the brownies are completely cooled before applying the frosting to prevent it from melting.
  • For an extra touch, sprinkle some chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs on top of the frosting.
