Description

Fizzy Kool-Aid Lollipops are an exciting and colorful homemade candy that fizzes in your mouth with every bite. Infused with the bold flavors of Kool-Aid, these lollipops offer a sweet, tangy, and fizzy sensation, making them a fun treat for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet of Kool-Aid drink mix (any flavor, but fruit flavors work best)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda (this gives the fizz)
  • 1/2 tsp citric acid (for a tangy, sour kick and extra fizz)
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Candy thermometer
  • Non-stick spray or oil (for greasing the molds)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Lollipop Molds:
    • Lightly spray your lollipop molds with non-stick spray or lightly grease them with oil. If you’re using lollipop sticks, insert them into the molds. Set aside.
  • Make the Lollipop Mixture:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the Kool-Aid drink mix, sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir everything together to dissolve the sugar, then place the saucepan over medium heat.
  • Boil the Mixture:
    • Allow the mixture to boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature, and let it reach 300°F (150°C), also known as the hard crack stage. This can take about 10-15 minutes, so keep an eye on the mixture as it boils.
  • Add the Fizz Ingredients:
    • Once the syrup has reached the correct temperature, remove the saucepan from the heat. Quickly stir in the baking soda and citric acid. Be careful—it will bubble up and fizz!
  • Pour the Lollipops:
    • Immediately pour the hot syrup into the prepared molds. Fill each mold to the top, and be sure to cover the stick with some syrup for proper adhesion.
  • Let the Lollipops Cool:
    • Allow the lollipops to cool completely at room temperature. This should take about 30 minutes. Once fully set, remove them carefully from the molds.
  • Enjoy the Fizzy Fun:
    • Your Fizzy Kool-Aid Lollipops are ready to enjoy! When you bite into them, the fizzy sensation will surprise you, thanks to the baking soda and citric acid.

Notes

  • Kool-Aid Flavor: You can experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors to create a variety of lollipop colors and tastes. Popular choices are cherry, grape, or tropical punch.
  • Citric Acid: If you don’t have citric acid, you can substitute it with a bit of lemon juice, but citric acid gives a stronger sour kick, enhancing the fizz effect.
  • Storage: Store the lollipops in an airtight container to prevent them from becoming sticky. If it’s humid, wrapping them individually in cellophane or plastic wrap can help preserve their texture.
