Description

This Mackinac Island Fudge is a rich, creamy, and decadent treat that brings the famous fudge from Mackinac Island right to your kitchen. Made with a perfect balance of sugar, butter, and cream, this homemade fudge is indulgent and customizable with chopped nuts for added texture. Perfect for gifting or enjoying on your own!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, heavy cream, and milk.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage (234°F on a candy thermometer).
  • Remove from heat and add the butter, vanilla extract, and nuts (if using).
  • Beat the mixture until it thickens and loses its gloss.
  • Pour into a greased pan and let it cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Be sure to constantly stir the fudge while it cooks to prevent it from burning.
  • If you don’t have a candy thermometer, you can test the soft ball stage by dropping a small amount of the mixture into cold water; it should form a soft ball that flattens when removed.
  • You can add other mix-ins like chocolate chips, caramel, or even marshmallows for variations.
  • Allow the fudge to set fully before cutting to ensure it holds together.
