Ingredients
Scale
For the Scones:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2/3 cup heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, or you can use dried fruit or nuts)
For the Glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (adjust for consistency)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red or pink food coloring (optional)
For Decoration (optional):
- Sprinkles (heart-shaped or colorful)
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. - Cut in the Butter:
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized bits of butter. - Add Wet Ingredients:
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and egg. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. If using, fold in the mini chocolate chips, dried fruit, or nuts. - Shape the Scones:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times to bring it together, then pat it into a 1-inch thick round. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet. If you don’t have a heart-shaped cutter, you can use a round cutter or simply cut the dough into wedges. - Brush with Cream:
Lightly brush the tops of the scones with a little heavy cream for a golden finish. - Bake the Scones:
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack. - Make the Glaze:
While the scones are cooling, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a few drops of red or pink food coloring if desired. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. - Glaze the Scones:
Once the scones have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the tops. Add sprinkles or other decorations while the glaze is still wet. - Serve:
Serve the heart-shaped scones warm, with a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy your festive treat!

- You can also fill the scones with jam, berries, or chocolate chips for a delicious twist.
